Description
DTL is a very well known and smart accelerator structure. Has figh shunt impedance because operating in the fundamental mode of a cylinder, short focusing period and solid beam dynamics with internal quadrupoles, field stabilization with post couplers. In the last years new high power DTLs have been realized. ESS DTL is the most powerful ever built and has been recently commissioned; new perspectives are are being developed in the field of compact neutron sources and low energy linacs for medical applications.
