Description

Klystron tube reliability and longevity have been widely discussed in recent years. Using x-ray photo detectors, we design and implement a cost-effective diagnostic for klystron to diagnose and improve klystron health. The method is simple and allows the mapping of beam interception along the length of the tube. Such use of x-ray photo detectors has been utilized for locating RF structure faults in the DTL at LANSCE. This implementation allows early detection of magnetic field and beam mismatch which will allow for optimization of the lifetime of the klystron tubes.
