Description
In this paper we present the results of ESS SCL cavities measurements which allowed us to determine crucial parameters for future SCL operation and LLRF systems tuning. The campaign of measurements was done during SCL commissioning, second beam on dump and prior to beam on target.
All the measurements taken involved the usage of cavities fast tuning system - piezo tuner.
Measurements of mechanical modes were done for all cavities families, which allowed to determine its longitudinal natural frequencies and prepare accordingly for optimal piezo tuners usage in the presence of the LFD excitation.
Parameters necessary to define Lorentz Force Detuning compensation were measured, like: LFD coefficient (specific for each SCL cavity family), piezo identification (to verify design and actual piezo tuner range). SCL cavities passband mode were measured, in order to fine tune notch filter frequency position for each family and specific cavity (expected pi mode neighbor position shows, as expected, as spread due to geometries spread).
Piezo capacitance as function of temperature was measured, which can be used as a fault tuning tool in case of unexpected cavity detuning at high gradient.
The described tools and measurements outcome are presented with their future implementation in the ESS LINAC environment.
