Description
The use of permanent magnets in accelerators comes with the trade-off that radiation exposure during accelerator operation alters the magnetic fields, limiting the lifetime of the magnets. To determine the technical feasibility of a proposed upgrade to the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF), permanent magnets of different properties were placed near the accelerator beamline and exposed to radiation during the last run, with periodic in-situ measurements of their magnetic properties. This paper presents an analysis of the change in the magnetic properties of permanent magnets as a function of absorbed radiation dose.
