Description
J-PARC slow extraction uses a bump orbit during extraction. Slow extraction is performed at one-third resonance. The QFN and Extract Quadropole magnets (EQ) change the tune to approach the resonance. The bump orbit is adjusted every moment by acquiring the tune shifts caused by the QFN and EQ. This mechanism is called the dynamic bump system. This system reduces beam loss and contributes to higher intensity.
However, a bump orbit carries the risk of the beam hitting and damaging other equipment. The bump orbit could damage other equipment if other components of the accelerator break down during extraction. We have developed a system to safely stop the bump orbit in such cases.
