Description
The ionisation of residual gas molecules by the electron beam leading to beam instability could be a limiting factor for the vacuum pressures in future accelerators. The Fast Beam-Ion Instability has previously been modelled in CLIC for a uniform vacuum pressure along the LINAC. The numerical modelling tools PyECLOUD and PyHEADTAIL were expanded such that the main LINAC could be modelled with the expected vacuum composition and pressure profile along the machine. The instability was shown to be sensitive to pressure spikes in the beginning of the LINAC where the ion trapping is stronger.
