Description
The HZB is currently in the CDR phase for a successor of its storage ring BESSY II, running since 1998 in Berlin Adlershof. BESSY III is planned to operate a high current beam of 300 mA at 2.5 GeV electron energy. The lattice will be based on a multi bend achromat, enabling a natural emittance of about 100 pm rad. However, due to the strong multipole magnets needed the dynamic aperture is much smaller compared to the earlier generation light sources, complicating the beam injection significantly. Together with modern light sources demands for a highly efficient, transparent, top up injection this makes the design of the injection system challenging.
In this paper possible injection schemes are considered and their applicability for BESSY III is discussed. At present an NLK scheme is favoured: adjustments of the optics are introduced as well as simulation results of the injection process.
In addition, an option for on axis injection during the machine commissioning is presented.
