Description

The China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), consisting of a linear accelerator and a Rapid Cycling Synchrotron (RCS), initiated an upgrade project in 2025. After the upgrade, the beam energy of the LINAC will be increased from 80 MeV to 300 MeV, with a macropulse width of 575 μs, a repetition rate of 25 Hz, a chopping frequency of 1 MHz, and radio-frequency (RF) accelerating frequencies of 324 MHz and 648 MHz. During operation, beam position jitter was observed within the macropulse, which could degrade injection efficiency. To provide more effective information for the injection process, a beam position calculation algorithm based on BPM signals is proposed. A digital narrow-band filter is first applied to suppress the 1 MHz chopping frequency component. Then, the macropulse is divided into multiple time segments, and IQ demodulation is used to extract signal amplitude and phase. Finally, the beam position for each segment is calculated using the Δ/Σ method. The developed algorithm enables precise measurement of beam position variations within the macropulse, providing valuable support for improving operational stability and injection efficiency.
