Description
The Taiwan Photon Source (TPS) upgrade to a fourth-generation diffraction-limited storage ring is currently under study. Unlike third-generation synchrotron light sources, fourth-generation machines intentionally increase transverse beam coupling to maximize beam lifetimet.
We have developed an Accelerator Toolbox (AT)-based routine that precisely controls the coupling ratio at the linear optics design stage while preserving dispersion functions, betatron tunes, and zero tilt of the beam ellipse in the straight sections. Additionally, a separate online feedback tool has been implemented to maintain the target coupling in the presence of insertion device gaps, magnetic errors, and lattice misalignments.
Simulation results using realistic TPS upgrade parameters are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of both tools. Related topics, including normal-mode analysis within AT and the impact of various disturbances on coupling stability, are also discussed.
