Description

We present the design and initial results for testing radiation exposure of anti-resonant hollow core fiber (AR-fiber) at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE). AR-fiber has been co-exposed with standard single mode fiber (SMF) to ionizing radiation environments at three locations within the LANSCE facility: the transition region between the drift tube LINAC and the cavity coupled accelerator region, within the Proton Storage Ring, and at a newly commissioned experimental region within the LANSCE Line-D. We show the effects for the wide spectrum ionizing radiation on the ARF fiber laser transport properties post exposure and present the design and initial installation of a fiber coupled, laser diode-based, diagnostic for continuous, calibrated monitoring of ionizing radiation dose and ARF transport testing at the Line-D experimental location. Our results show that AR-fiber is a good candidate for delivery of high energy, short pulse laser beams to high radiation areas, as an alternative for free-space laser transport.
