Description

The LANSCE 805 MHz Klystron Modulator Test Stand is the latest development of the RF Power Plant at Los Alamos. The need for reliable klystron power and higher beamtime availability was noted during the past years at LANSCE. The outdated RF power plant at LANSCE is increasingly more difficult to maintain, and its obsolescence has put it in track for total failure in the upcoming decade. The Modulated-Anode Klystron architecture of the LANSCE klystron and its corresponding modulator and power supply make it one of the oldest machines in operation of its class. The LANSCE 805 MHz Klystron Test Stand is assessing the current HPRF technological solutions that apply to the 805 MHz system. This paper is an analytical comparison of some modulator circuit topologies that can be used for driving the klystron tubes.
