Description

In this paper we report measurement of wire sag in a pulsed wire set up. The experimental method of wire sag measurement consists of an optocoupler inserted into the undulator gap at the center of the wire length. The opto-coupler is mounted on a vertical translation stage which in turn sits on a horizontal stage along with the Hall Probe. The optocoupler is a phototransistor-detector module. When the path between the phototransistor-detector path is interrupted the voltage recorded is maxi-mum due to zero current flowing in the circuit. For a giv-en tension in the wire, the position of the optocoupler is adjusted so that the optical path is completely blocked yielding maximum output. In the next, the tension is changed and the position of the optocoupler is adjusted to read the maximum voltage. The vertical translation stage position is noted. In this way, the vertical position vs. the tension is plotted and sag is calculated.
