Description
The Australian Synchrotron light source has been operating since 2007. Since this time, new insertion devices and changed RF operating conditions have created a mismatch between the initially designed cavity RF coupling factors and what is needed now. In order to accommodate future high power insertion devices we need to increase our coupling factor in order to reduce the amount of reflected power from the cavity. While this is normally done by adjusting the angle of the input coupler loop, uncertainty in the range of motion available, as well as the significant vacuum intervention required led us to explore other methods. Here we present the outcome from using a simple modification of the waveguide to include a fixed aperture, which results in the desired shift in coupling factor.
