Description
The IRRAD Proton Facility, located on T8 beamline at CERN PS East Hall, is an experimental infrastructure hosting irradiation tests and experiments of various nature. It focuses on the development of equipment and electronics for High-Energy Physics (HEP) experiments.
Over the years of operation, multiple data-management systems were designed and implemented to operate the facility and monitor key factors of its performance, leading to numerous improvements. These activities also yielded a significant wealth and variety of data and metadata that were used in successful case studies.
We present these existing tools and systems, and our long-term endeavour focusing on the possibility of providing a physics- and AI-based “digital twin” for IRRAD. Such a virtual representation of the facility, with continuously updating parameters (based on the constantly incoming streams of data), would be an invaluable system for the prediction and optimisation of small- and medium-sized experiments (SME).
