Description

Jefferson Lab is expanding its R&D on ferroelectric fast reactive tuners (FE-FRTs) through coordinated efforts supported by both an internal LDRD project and a DOE SBIR Phase I collaboration with Euclid TechLabs. Current work includes RF characterization of a Euclid-provided prototype tuner, enabling direct benchmarking of ferroelectric material performance for realistic CEBAF-like operating conditions. A key challenge for CEBAF and similar accelerators is the absence of dedicated tuner ports, requiring the FE-FRT to operate through the existing fundamental power coupler (FPC) port, an approach that could enable future retrofitting of legacy SRF systems. In parallel, a new three-stub FE-loaded tuner and a “magic-tee–based” configuration are being developed toward a potential integration with the Nb₃Sn ¼-cryomodule Grey Enid at the UITF. Together, these efforts lay the foundation for high-speed, non-mechanical tuning solutions for future conduction-cooled and continuous-wave SRF systems.
