Description

The spin rotators in the Electron Storage Ring of the planned Electron Ion Collider facility at Brookhaven National Laboratory consist of a series of solenoid modules. Each module comprises of split solenoids and matching quadrupoles. For the desired function of a module, it is necessary to set a solenoid’s peak fringe field requirement so that this field does not drastically affect a quadrupole’s required field quality. This article presents results from the finite element analysis studies conducted on the current design of the solenoid-quadrupole pair closest to each other to determine the quadrupole harmonic profile in the presence of the solenoid.
