Description

At the J-PARC Main Ring synchrotron, a project is currently underway to upgrade the beam power to 1.3 MW for the neutrino oscillation experiment. Precise control of the optics and beam orbit relative to the magnetic center of the accelerator components is crucial to suppress and localize beam losses in intense beams. To satisfy the target, ongoing upgrades of the data acquisition system for the beam position monitors (BPMs) are expected to improve the accuracy from 30 μm to 10 μm in closed orbit measurement[1]. To utilize the improved accuracy of the new BPM system, it is essential to perform more precise corrections of BPM offsets by beam-based alignment (BBA) than that performed before in 2014[2] within the limited operation time. Based on a fast BBA with sinusoidal excitation of steering magnets and frequency analysis of the BPM data, conducted at ALBA Synchrotron[3], we examine the feasibility of achieving improvements in accuracy by simulation under the assumption of the accuracy of the new BPM.
