Description
Stationary computed tomography (CT) with distributed X-ray sources eliminates motion artifacts and have far more higher scanning speed, compared to conventional CT with spinning scan assemblies. Industrial CT applications, such as the shipper container testing, need especially higher energy X-ray to penetrate thick metal objects. This work introduces an S-band multi-beam accelerating structure as a distributed MeV-level X-ray source for industrial stationary CT application. This structure comprises 3 accelerating cavities and 2 coupling waveguides, operating in π/2 standing wave mode with a center frequency of 2998MHz. With 2.0 MW microwave power input, each cavity produces electron beam with 1.0 MeV average energy at 100 mA peak electron current. The novel structure will facilitate industrial stationary CT technology, by providing an urgently needed MeV-level distributed X-ray source.
