Description

The multi-bend achromat lattice of PETRA IV employs compact magnetic design, where fringe fields have noticeable effects on the beam optics. In particular, the combined-function permanent-magnet-based dipole with a longitudinal gradient, built of short blocks, has a complex 3D field profile that has to be correctly and efficiently represented. In this work we study the most efficient representation of such magnets that can be constructed based on magnetic simulation data, result in correct linear and non-linear optics parameters, behave correctly under alignment errors and, finally, be adjustable based on magnetic measurement data.
