Description
CNAO is one of the six hadrontherapy centres all around the world that produce both proton and carbon
ions beams.
It is based on a synchrotron in which the beams are extracted by a slow extraction mechanism that uses either a betatron core or an electrostatic exciter (RFKO).
Since only the RFKO method is used for clinical beams, the same extraction method is used for new ion species in commissioning.
In this article, we show the commissioning status of the helium beams generated by the new AISHa-CNAO source.
