Description
In beam-driven plasma wakefield acceleration (PWFA) facilities, exact measurement of beam arrival time is crucial, as it is a key physical parameter determining acceleration efficiency and beam quality. Two beam arrival time monitors (BAMs) are planned to be installed in the PWFA beamline 2. These monitors employ a dual TM 010-mode cavity design, where the radio frequency signals output from individual cavities are down-converted to obtain intermediate frequency signals whose phase contains information about the beam arrival time at the probe location. By mixing the output signals from the two cavities with different resonant frequencies, the beam transit time at the probe position can be determined. This paper primarily includes the design and offline testing of the beam arrival time monitor and an overall evaluation of system resolution.
