Description
Abstract: Recently, SHINE has introduced the AttoSHINE concept to generate terawatt-class attosecond X-ray pulses in continuous-wave operation based on a self-chirping mode that requires no additional hardware such as a wiggler. In this scheme, the compression working point of the linac and the switchyard is designed for strong pre-undulator compression. The resulting high-dimensional set of optimization variables makes the attosecond X-ray pulse output highly sensitive to the electron-beam properties and to the orbit in the undulator. In this work, we employ Bayesian optimization in start-to-end simulations to efficiently explore this configuration space and to identify settings that best accommodate the self-chirping scheme. The optimized configurations significantly enhance the attainable peak power of the attosecond X-ray pulses and demonstrate that Bayesian optimization is an effective strategy for automated tuning of advanced attosecond FEL schemes.
