Description

MAX 4U is an upgrade, presently at the conceptual phase,  of the 3 GeV storage ring at MAX IV Laboratory, meant to reduce the emittance of the present machine from 330 pm.rad to less than 100 pm.rad,  reducing the effects of the change on the present infrastructure, keeping the same beamline source points while minimizing costs and dark time for the MAX IV user community.
The paper presents studies of the beam dynamics, from design to calculation of the key performance parameters,  resulting in two possible candidates at 95 and 65 pm.rad, showing pros and cons related to the two lattices for an informed choice of the  final machine.
