Description

The Fermilab PIP-II project aims to deliver 1.2 MW of proton beam power to the DUNE neutrino experiment. As part of the accelerator complex upgrade, an 800 MeV superconducting linac is currently under construction and is expected to complete commissioning by 2030. This new linac will replace the existing 400 MeV normal-conducting linac and will send an H⁻ beam to the Booster. The Booster is a 15 Hz resonant circuit synchrotron, where the main bending magnetic field follows a sinusoidal ramp at 15 Hz. During injection, the magnetic field is not constant, while the linac delivers beam for approximately 550 μs. To mitigate beam losses caused by the ramping magnetic field during injection, 48 dipole corrector magnets will be used to generate an additional bending field. This will keep the total magnetic field effectively constant during the injection period. In this presentation, we will provide an estimation of the required magnetic field and the hardware design, based on measurements.
