Contributed Oral Presentation

The European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, is a state-of-the-art research facility featuring the world’s most powerful linear proton accelerator and a high-intensity neutron source. ESS employs a comprehensive Personnel Safety System (PSS), which integrates several safety interlock systems distributed across the facility. These systems operate independently, but are connected via a...

A New Machine Protection System (MPS) at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) was developed and implemented on µTCA-based hardware platforms. The system monitors more than 2500 field inputs and shuts off the beam within 10 µs if adverse events occur.
We will present system level design process of various firmware and software components as well as the system integration into EPICS environment....

During the startup, maintenance and user program a stable beam conditions are crucial for smooth operation of beamlines and instruments at many light sources, including European XFEL. For visual verification of the beam position and jitter, mostly invasive luminescent screens are used. These screens made of various materials are located at several locations along the beam path and can...

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is implementing a major upgrade to the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) facility, encompassing the addition of the Second Target Station (STS). Preliminary design reviews have been conducted on several STS Personnel Protection Systems (PPS). The reviews focused primarily on the integration with the existing SNS PPS, the new proton transport tunnel, and the...
