Description
The White Rabbit (WR) network at CERN is undergoing a significant expansion with the introduction of a new branch dedicated to General Machine Timing (GMT), Beam Synchronous Timing (BST), Safe Machine Parameters (SMP) and Radio Frequency (RF) distribution.
Prior to 2024, the WR network counted approximately 35 switches and 70 nodes. The new deployment aims to add nearly 200 switches and 1800 nodes to the network, representing a considerable increase in operational complexity. Such a rapid expansion requires careful network design and configuration, as well as the development of more advanced tools for continuous monitoring and efficient diagnostics. This paper presents the design and configuration of the new network, as well as diagnostic methodologies and monitoring strategies implemented to support and supervise the evolving network infrastructure.
