Description

The Grand Accelerateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) began operating in 1983, since the scientific demand is still there, a wide renovation project called Cyclotrons Renovation (CYREN) is ongoing, aiming at maintaining the accelerator up and running for at least two more decades. One of the work package of the CYREN project is related to the GANIL Cyclotrons control system (GANIL-CS). Current control system date back to the early 90’s, it relies on Versa Module Eurocard (VME) controllers, software were developed with ADA language and MOTIF/XRT services for graphical user interface (GUI). The MOTIF/XRT technology is more and more difficult to operate with latest Linux distribution and hardware generation, user interfaces are difficult and time consuming to maintain compared to state of the art GUI development environment, input output VME cards are less available. The project has decided to take measures against these risks. This paper will present the strategy defined and the status the refurbishment.
