Description
Intrabeam Scattering (IBS) has recently been recognized as a limiting factor for free electron laser (FEL) performance, making it a critical concern for the linear accelerator community. There is a growing need for accurate numerical tools to compute IBS and integrate it with other collective effects, as most previous studies assumed Gaussian beams, which are not representative of FEL conditions. In response, the tracking code RF-Track has been enhanced with a novel kinetic-hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm for IBS calculations. This contribution reports on IBS studies for several FELs, including SwissFEL at PSI and FERMI at Elettra. For SwissFEL, simulation results are benchmarked against experimental measurements. Benchmarks of emittance growth are compared with other tracking codes, and predictions for IBS impact on future facilities are discussed.
