Description

The development and reliable operation of high-power beam dumps for heavy ions is unique and highly challenging due to the high volumetric power deposition.  The FRIB team has developed, tested, and operates static beam dumps that absorb up to 50 kW of power from heavy-ion beams, including the uranium beam. The development of the rotating beam dump is in progress, with the significant challenge of providing cooling water through a rotating water-vacuum seal. This talk will present the off-line test results and operational experience with the various versions of heavy ion beam dumps.
