Description
At FRIB, we have developed three feedback systems to stabilize the operation of the liquid lithium film used as a charge stripper. Two relatively slow feedback systems maintain the beam energy, the energy loss in the stripper, and the time of flight to the following RF cavity unchanged. The third system blocks the beam with the fast chopper during periods of fast instabilities, changing the film thickness over a timescale of 300 microseconds. The latter substantially reduced Machine Protection System trips due to beam losses on a 150-microsecond time scale. The positive impact of feedback systems on the high-power operation of the linac will be presented.
