Description

The Pohang Light Source-II (PLS-II) linear accelerator (LINAC) functions as a full-energy injector, accelerating electron beams to 3 GeV for injection into the storage ring. Maintaining LINAC stability is essential for reliable top-up operation of the storage ring. Until 2023, achieving the target energy of 3 GeV required operating the modulators near their voltage limits, which posed significant operational challenges. To enhance the LINAC’s energy capacity, two accelerating columns were replaced with upgraded units, and the Stanford LINAC Energy Doublers (SLEDs) were precisely tuned. These improvements enabled the linear accelerator to deliver the electron beam energy up to 3.5 GeV.
