Description
Over the past decade, several new generation radioactive isotope beam facilities have seen significant progress. Among them, FRIB, RIBF, and SPIRAL2 are already operational. RAON is currently undergoing commissioning, and HIAF is under construction. For brand‑new facilities that are not upgrades of existing ones, such as FRIB, RAON or HIAF, the operating frequency of the RFQ section is chosen in the range of 80–90 MHz. This choice is primarily driven by the acceleration of heavy ions with A/Z up to 7. The paper discusses the advantages of lower frequencies, which can considerably mitigate the maximum power density at the vane tips and consequently help to ensure more stable operation in CW mode.
