Description
At HZB / BESSY the first in-vacuum APPLE II undulator is under construction. The design includes three magnet arrays for each of the four magnet rows for an efficient force compensation. The support and drive system has been delivered and the specification of the magnets has been finished. All magnet pairs are soldered and the magnet pairs are clamped into the keepers. Central and compensating magnet pairs for a 10-period prototype have been fabricated by Vacuumschmelze. The magnet grades (including GBD) and magnetic and geometric tolerances are identical to the ones of the full-scale IVUE32. A thorough lifetime test at the smallest gap of 7mm has been performed driving two magnet row phases cyclically within the range [+16mm, -16mm]. The long-term stability of the magnet structure has been checked periodically during several 100.000 load cycles via sensitive moving wire field integral measurements. This paper reports about the analysis of the 10-period prototype tests.
