Description
Three horizontal and three vertical collimators will be installed in the Diamond-II storage ring to collect lost particles and provide machine protection. Due to the small electron beam emittance however, there is a risk that damage to the collimator blades could occur following a full beam loss. In addition, the collimators are located upstream of the permanent magnet dipoles, which could be damaged by the resulting EM shower. To mitigate against these risks, two fan-out kickers will be installed to blow up the transverse beam dimensions and direct a higher fraction of the EM shower into the collimator blades. This paper describes beam dynamics issues related to the fan-out kickers and gives particle tracking results.
